Digital Wanderer

I finally got around to trying out SkypeOut—calls from Skype to landlines and mobile phones. The rates are quite attractive, especially for Russia, which is where I called — 6 cents per minute, billed by the minute.
It works quite well. Of course, it’s not as good as, say, calling from a Megafon mobile in Moscow to a Tele2 mobile in Latvia. But it’s perfectly acceptable—the delay is barely noticeable, there’s no interference, though the voice is distorted quite heavily by the compression.
It’s a shame I don’t really have anyone to call—all my acquaintances are either in Latvia, available directly on Skype, or people I don’t keep in touch with.
